Urinary tract infections are one of the most common healthcare associated infections. In this virtual special issue, we have collated recent articles published in Infection, Disease and Health that related to urinary tract infection and indwelling urinary catheters. The selected articles covers a diverse range of topics, including improving the appropriateness of urine specimen collection, point prevalence approaches to surveillance and risk factors for urinary tract infections. In recent times, there has been a focus on the prevention of urinary tract infections in hospitals. This special issue provides a timely and convenient collection of articles on this topic.
